:: cold water for a hot afternoon ::

As been excitedly planned from yesterday, today I took a trip to the National Art Gallery. Finally! It's been years since I went there. I missed those times. And lately I really got this sudden urge to go there and finally today, that chance came!

There are some exhibitions going on there. I'm very excited about that!!

:: Syed Thajudeen's Solo Exhibition: Paintings on Love ::

['Seroja' by Syed Thajudeen. DISCLAIMER: I don't own the artwork. This one is not one of the paintings shown for the 'Paintings on Love' Exhibition]

* Syed Thajudeen's paintings on love as the main theme. They got these beautiful color combination which creates an aphrodisiac mood. By the way, he gives red color to every human figure's lips, fingertips, and toetips... I wondered why? Well I got three personal faves from this exhibition. The first one is titled 'Lovers on Couch II' (if I'm not mistaken), the second one is the painting on the big panel about Paramesvara watching the mousedeer fights the fierce hunting dog, and the third one is another big panel painting which got people watching a dancer on a boat on a river.... geez, my explanation sucks! Haha sorry folks, been a long time since I kept up with my writing. Guess I'm getting old arghh!!

:: Women Artists Exhibition ::

* ahh, for this one I just wanted to highlight this: I'm very excited to see more works of my fave woman artist in Malaysia, Eng Hwee Chu. When I first went to The Art Gallery, the only work of her I saw was only the one titled "The Last Supper." Since then though, it has been my favorite paintings of all the paintings in the Art Gallery. Today I saw two more of her works. One is titled "Black Moon," and the other one... DARN!! I forgot the title!! But they're awesome... I think I've read it somewhere that they refer to the style as 'magical realism.' (which at first I thought IMO was something close to Magritte's definition of surrealism) Well, never mind the movement and all, I just personally loved her works :)

:: Lukisan Anak Pelukis ::

* now this is a very interesting exhibition! This one exhibits the works of the children of some famous Malaysian artists such as Shamiza Abu Hassan :D I tell you--I'm speechless seeing their works (did I sound like Charles? Ahem--sorry. But I'm sincere on this, y'know? Hahaha). They're only children ranged from 5-12 years old, I think. But their works are awesome, man!! Well, I guess the parents really taught them very well, those great artists!^^ In that very early age they've started using mixed media (and darn good at it), creating some expressive works of art which is not only limited to just simply creating 'pictures with amazing color gradation' (like, sadly, I noticed, is the average standard in winning a drawing competition in Indonesia).

What's difference in this Children's Paintings Exhibition is, they seemed to understand that art is not simply standardized and limited as creating pretty pictures but--it's the idea and the expression that matters. In this exhibition, I see more freedom of the soul to express--an aesthetic freedom not boxed inside those average standard of what a group of people thinks is beautiful; but an aesthetic freedom without a burden of what defines a good work of art. Some of the works might not have pretty color gradation, nor right proportion, but they speak for themselves. They tell a story.

All I can say about this painting is-it's how the purity children's souls should be expressed in art. They should be free, firsthand.

:: The Pop Art Exhibition (OMG again I forgot the artist's name. Sorry!)

* Sadly, by the time I visited his solo exhibition, the artist has already passed away on 31 July last month. But nevertheless, his pop works were awesome and interactive. Some of the 3D works remind me of DuChamp's Fountain somehow, I don't know why. But his idea of using magazine and newspaper collage, plus some curious cubicle structure, as a signature for each of his works is an amazing idea. Oh yea, there's this one curious installation there--a white desk and a white chair, each of them has a modified magazine print on it. Well to me, it seems like an interactive installation art actually. I really wanted to sit there for a while and feel something but I'm not sure whethere it's allowed or not, because they had put the 'Please do not touch the artworks' on every space of the works there. So I didn't. *sigh*

:: Bakat Muda Sezaman 2006 (The Young Contemporaries) ::

*well this one is not yet started. But they're calling for entries now :D I'm waiting for the exhibition on early December! I think this will be the 3rd BMS Exhibition I'll be seeing. The previous two were awwweeesome, man!! I can't wait for this one!! I hope they come out with more installation arts and interactive arts! XD

... so ended my report from this year's visit to the National Art Gallery. Haaa~! Finally. I haven't seen some fine arts in a while. It feels good. Like drinking cold water in a hot afternoon! :)

:: The Mistress of Spices ::

Have you ever heard the novel "The Mistress of Spices" by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni? I just read the movie will be coming out soon. I think the cinemas in Malaysia will screen it on 17 August 2006.

Whoa I was still on the way finishing the novel when I read about this news on the paper! Now these past few days I've been rushing to finish it before the movie showed up in the cinemas hehe! I hate it when they screen movies I haven't finished reading the book yet. Coz once I've watched the whole thing, there's no mood to continue the novel anymore coz what's the point? I already knew the ending!

Hmm, back to the topic, the one who's going to play the main role as Tilo the Mistress is the stunningly beautiful Indian actress, Aishwarya Rai. Did i typed her name right? Hehehe. Yeah, the pic I put above there is her. Pretty eh? I loved that pic as Tilo standing behind her Spice Bazaar storewindow.

I think it was quite a good novel. It revolves around the condition of the Indian society living in America and mostly highlighted about the value of their own culture. It has a pretty exotic feel that I really love.

Well, I can imagine the film to come out in a very drama mood. I don't usually watch drama movies honestly but I'm really not gonna miss this one for sure heheh!

"Lonely American, how shall I begin, I who always have prided myself on the quick remedy? I roam the shelves. Kalo jire? Ajwain? Powder of mango-gingerroot?Choon, the burning white lime that is wrapped in betel leaves? Nothing seems suitable. Nothing feels right. Perhaps the fault is in me, in my distracted soul. I Tilo who cannot stop thinking about those eyes dark as tropical night, as deep, as filled with peril... and why do I persist in calling him lonely?"

:+: lemon meringue :+:

And the dream goes...

[One fine afternoon. Sunrays bathed my wooden kitchen table as I was making cookies when he came about.]

"What're you doing there?"

"I'm making cookies?" *turned to him, smiling*

"Hmm? What cookies?"

"Uuummm..." *take some minutes to actually remember what the heck I was making*

"Y'know... cookies are best when you made them Lemon Meringue. Here, I'll show you." *acting like an expert hotel chef... who do you think you are? Anthony Bourdain, love?*

[He picked up that freshly-baked crisp cookie from the tray and spread the buttery lemon cream on it.]

"Then, you put another cookie on top of it, like Oreo. See?"

[He put another cookie on top of it and ... voila!--the Lemon Meringue Sandwich Cookie!]

"Wow!" I was staring at it with eyes open wide, looking amused with that Lemon Meringue magic he just did.

...then I woke up.

Ha! A short and sweet dream. Quite a pleasure to make my sleeping time not boring at last! But hey, wait! What they called 'Lemon Meringue' is not a cookie--it's sort of a cake! And... I can't make cookies. Haha-a dream's really just a dream, eh?^^

Oh well, sweet dreams are made of these... :)

Absent Symphony No.1 : Wandering Overture avec Shitty Finishing

I just went through several people's blog on Friendster and Blogspot. I love reading people's entries about what's going on in their life now, and also observing their unique writing style. Everyone got different way of telling stories. Storytelling is an art. Blogging is a form of art--it's true :) Some write in a very expressive way, some were cynical, some were writing daily life facts which were expressed in a light way but with extreme accuracy, and some write deep and meaningful thoughts... people with amazing talents, they are.

Ahha~! Honestly after I read those people's blogs and then observe my own, I feel like a little kid splashing water in a shallow swimming pool while watching the grown-ups go diving. Ha!

Well, this post is kinda pointless and it ain't going nowhere... it's just a balm for my itchy hands which is cooperating with my growling tummy.

"I can't think with an empty stomach." - Garfield

You're the man, Garfield!! ^^

*watched Click with him today. Great movie, great food, great news, great finishing, great boyfriend. Happy Perfect Friday, honey! ;) haa... I miss that good ol' tradition. Let's keep it up again, shall we? *wink*

:: The Fall of Nataku ::

Hehehe finally my first colored fan art! Well, the coloring's a bit lousy and messy and not to mention the flawed perspective of the feet but I finally done it! ^_^

This is Nataku from the well-known manga by Ryu Fujisaki called Senkaiden Hoshin Engi. Maybe some of you will know this character as that famous naughty boy Na Zha in the Chinese legend. I haven't actually given any title yet to this drawing but personally I'd like to call it "The Fall of Nataku." ;D yeah... I kinda like it, as well as the blood.

The sketch was firstly outlined by a drawing pen and then photocopied and colored. I really regret coloring the blood with that black drawing pen firsthand! Now that I colored it, I can't fill that bloody part with blood red color!! Arghh!! Bakabaka!! -_-"

Haha okay anyway... actually I plan to re-colorize this thing with Wacom. OMG I should really start learning Wacom, man... hope I got enough time to do the Wacom version of this one! :) Oh yea, I think I should actually draw a background for this one... yeah... let's see later.

Well, anyway, I hope you like it :)

PS: to my beloved dude, thanks a looot for helping me at the body proportion part heheh... my proportion drawing sux =P muax!

Spot the Irony

What kind of cookie are you?

You Are a Fortune Cookie

You're a rather normal person, except that you have extraordinary luck in life.
People want to be around you (even when they're a little sick of you), in hopes of being lucky too!

Ha! Talking about bad lucks and me as the black-cat-and-rainy-days magnet from my so-called rain city; I'm a Fortune Cookie!! ^^
Note this line I quote from up there:
"People want to be around you (even when they're a little sick of you), in hopes of being lucky too!..."
WHA...?? 'in hopes of being lucky'? haha they should say in 'vain hopes' of being lucky. Well, guess that's what they call the end is near hahaha... where's he? I must show him this frickin thing... hahaha...

Prologue: The Usual Crap

~Haaha! At last, I open another blog at Blogger here! :) Well, I guess I'm back to the writing mood. Well, thanks to Singapore's Sunday Times which i read a few days ago at Singapore--which covered an article about blogging. Reading that article made my hands itchy wanting to write something and post it hehehe...

Did I write too much 'well,'?

Ooohkay so for the first blog, I'll just fill it up with useless babbles as usual. No new buletin posts today. Hey! Jane, Ribka, Wulan! Post your buletins now, gurls! Hahaha... I need them!

Well to update you about my current condition right now, I'm in the state of what they call 'pengangguran professional,' y'know? Basically saying, I'm profesionally unemployed now and desperately looking for a job. Hmm maybe 'desperate' is not quite the right word to define it as I'm not in a desperate nor stress kind of situation, honestly. Maybe what my 'speaking-as-in-matter-of-fact' boyfriend was quite right saying: "I don't think you got enough memory to be desperate." Hahah... sharp joke, witty dude! I'll get on you on this next time, just wait! >:)

Oh yea, speaking of the recent critical jobless condition, me and Rebin had a new hobby recently (due to running out of pirated DVDs, entertainment, money, no more Garo series to watch and waiting for the next Kamen Rider Kabuto episode) which is watching clips from YouTube.com.

There's this very nice Japanese videoclip. I think the song is titled 'MEBAE' by nobodyknows+. The song is very nice and the clip is nice too. What's interesting, the clip tells a story about this girl who fell in love with ULTRAMAN! Ahha~!! XD

And the whole clip shows the scenes of their relationship just like a normal couple does--Ultraman give a bucket of flowers, they hugged each other, quarrel, slow-dancing, drink wine together, Ultraman gives a beautiful necklace to her as a present, etc... hahahah!! So funny la!^^ But I personally think it's very romantic in a funny way heheheh... plus, the clip had good quality. Here's the link if you wanna watch the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DVUKHC8AEQ&search=mebae

Well I guess that's it for the opening post for my blog. Feel free to drop comments! ;)
